Court Postpones Hearing In Polar Bear Listing MDL

Law360, New York (October 20, 2010, 7:46 PM EDT) -- A federal court ordered the U.S. government Wednesday to clarify its definition of an endangered species, postponing a hearing in a polar bear classification challenge that could impact the oil and gas industries.

The Obama administration will have about 30 days to report back with a clearer definition in a suit from environmental and other groups challenging the government's classification of polar bears as merely threatened, Judge Emmet G. Sullivan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia said.
