Pa. Governor Bans New Natural Gas Projects In Forests

Law360, New York (October 27, 2010, 3:49 PM EDT) -- Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell has signed an executive order halting new natural gas development on state forest lands, claiming any additional leases could endanger the environmental quality and character of the tracts.

According to Rendell, about 1.5 million of the 2.2 million acres of state-owned forest sit atop the Marcellus Shale, which is located underneath a half-dozen or so Eastern states and contains up to 489 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
