Smurfit-Stone Resolves Cleanup Claims For $15.4M

Law360, New York (October 29, 2010, 5:13 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has reached a deal with Smurfit-Stone Container Enterprises Inc. that requires the bankrupt packing company to distribute $15.4 million in stock to pay for environmental cleanup costs at several Superfund sites.

The proposed settlement, filed Thursday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, covers federal claims at six Superfund sites as well as claims brought by Smurfit-Stone's co-defendants in cleanup actions over two other sites.
