AIG Sues Church For Insurance Fraud

Law360, New York (March 14, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Insurance company AIG is suing a Colorado minister and four church groups over an alleged scheme to file fraudulent insurance claims on behalf of dead parishioners.

The insurance company claims the Rev. Acen Phillips, of American Church United, (ACU) conspired with other parish leaders in a racket that allegedly netted the men of the cloth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The suit, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, alleges the defendants fraudulently added churchgoers’ names to an AIG employee life...
