Whistleblowers Banned Under Labor Dept. Deals

Law360, New York (March 14, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The federal government has given the go-ahead to settlement agreements that banish whistleblowers from their former employer after they alert authorities to safety and security lapses at toxic waste sites and nuclear facilities, according to a report in USA Today.

U.S. Labor Department records show that a number of settlements approved since 2000 included permanent bans forcing the employee to never work with his or her employer again, the newspaper reported.
