RICO Claim In Chevron's Nigeria Case Dismissed

Law360, New York (March 15, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Racketeering charges against Chevron Corp. were dropped on Wednesday in the ongoing case over whether the oil company conspired with the Nigerian military to gun down demonstrators protesting its presence in Nigeria.

Judge Susan Illston ruled that the Nigerians had not provided enough evidence to show that Chevron financially benefited from the attacks on Nigerian villagers in 1998 and 1999, and struck the racketeering charge from the suit.
