S. African Tribunal OKs Plastic Pipes Cartel Deal

Law360, New York (November 1, 2010, 4:42 PM EDT) -- South Africa's Competition Tribunal has signed off on Flo-Tek Pipes and Irrigation (Pty) Ltd.'s 5 million rand ($714,000) settlement with the country's antitrust watchdog in its case against a plastic pipes cartel.

The competition court cleared Flo-Tek's settlement with the South African Competition Commission Wednesday, but refused to approve a similar 7 million rand ($1 million) deal with Swan Plastics CC at the same hearing because the necessary representative for the pipes manufacturer was not present.
