New Senate Bills Target Oil Mergers, OPEC

Law360, New York (March 15, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A bill has been introduced in the U.S. Senate that would force energy companies to prove to regulators that proposed mergers and acquisitions in the oil industry won’t hinder competition in the marketplace.

The legislation was proposed on Wednesday by Sen. Herb Kohl, a Wisconsin Democrat who says the Oil Industry Merger Antitrust Enforcement Act would make it easier for the government to block anti-competitive deals.
