ITC To Probe Motorola Over Microsoft Phone Patents

Law360, New York (November 3, 2010, 1:24 PM EDT) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission has granted Microsoft Corp.'s request for a probe into Android-based mobile devices imported by Motorola Inc., saying it will look into whether the products infringe nine of its patents for smartphone functions such as e-mail.

The ITC will refer the matter to an administrative law judge for an evidence hearing, then make a final decision on Microsoft's request for a cease-and-desist order and an exclusion order permanently blocking the Motorola products from entering the U.S., the ITC announced Tuesday.
