Enviro Groups Look To Intervene In W.Va. Mining Suit

Law360, New York (November 16, 2010, 7:35 PM EST) -- Several environmental groups on Tuesday announced their intention to intervene in a lawsuit filed by West Virginia contesting U.S. Environmental Protection Agency curbs on mountaintop removal coal mining, saying the state is trying to obstruct enforcement of the Clean Water Act.

The Sierra Club, Coal River Mountain Watch, Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, West Virginia Highlands Conservancy and other environmental advocates filed a motion to intervene in the lawsuit — which was lodged by West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin just prior to his election to the U.S....
