1st Transgender Trial Judge Nabs Seat On Calif. Court

Law360, New York (November 16, 2010, 5:12 PM EST) -- Patent attorney and administrative law judge Victoria Kolakowski has become the country's first openly transgender trial judge, emerging victorious in a close race for the Alameda County seat on California's Superior Court.

Kolakowski nabbed 51 percent of the votes in the race, beating out prosecutor John Creighton's 48 percent share to win the Nov. 2 election, according to results tallied by the Alameda County Registrar of Voters Office on Monday.
