Pittsburgh Bans Drilling On Marcellus Shale

Law360, New York (November 17, 2010, 12:58 PM EST) -- The city council of Pittsburgh, which sits on the Marcellus Shale, has voted to ban natural gas drilling within the city’s limits, arguing that the extraction process threatened public health and environmental safety.

In a 9-0 vote on Tuesday, the council approved the ban, making Pittsburgh the first city in Pennsylvania to pass such an ordinance.
