Syngenta's $160M Monsanto Unit Buy Wins EU Approval

Law360, New York (November 17, 2010, 2:33 PM EST) -- The European Commission cleared Syngenta AG's $160 million offer for Monsanto Co.'s hybrid sunflower seed business Wednesday after Syngenta agreed to sell off Monsanto's sunflower hybrid assets in Spain and Hungary to appease the regulator's antitrust worries.

The deal can go forward as long as Syngenta divests itself of sunflower hybrids that Monsanto has begun testing and commercialized, as well as the parental plant lines used to create them or that are slated for the development of new hybrids, the commission said.
