Fla. High Court OKs Everglades Land Deal

Law360, New York (November 18, 2010, 7:51 PM EST) -- The Florida Supreme Court on Thursday approved a plan for the South Florida Water Management District to save a 73,000-acre chunk of the Florida Everglades for preservation by buying it with bonds from U.S. Sugar Corp.

Appellants New Hope Sugar Co., a U.S. Sugar competitor, and the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians had argued that the trial court that shot down their bid to kill the project failed to consider the project’s economic infeasibility, according to the unanimous opinion authored by Justice Peggy Quince.
