Chinese Minister Brushes Off GM Lawsuit Over Auto Piracy

Law360, New York (September 6, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- U.S. automaker General Motors Co. has failed to offer substantial evidence that Chinese rival Chery Automobile Corp. ripped off its designs for the Magnus car model, a top government official said Monday.

“According to Chinese laws and also the evidence provided by the foreign party concerned, we couldn't find the company Chery guilty of conducting any misdeed or having any improper competition activities,” Deputy Commerce Minister Zhang Zhigang was quoted as saying in Chinese media.
