Supreme Court Rebuffs Copyright Start Date Case

Law360, New York (November 29, 2010, 12:52 PM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined IAC/Interactive Corp.'s request for a determination on whether a copyright kicks in on the application date or the date of the actual issuance of registration.

The high court rejected IAC's petition to review the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit's decision to overturn a district court ruling that Cosmetic Ideas Inc., the plaintiff in an infringement action against IAC and others, failed to comply with the prerequisite registration of a copyright prior to bringing an infringement suit....
