Light-Up Sneaker Inventor Hits Kmart With IP Suit

Law360 (December 10, 2010, 2:30 PM EST) -- Kmart Corp. has become the latest retailer accused of patent infringement by the inventor of light-up sneakers, who is representing himself in the case.

In a suit filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Erik Cherdak of Gaithersburg, Md., who has been issued two patents for sneakers that flash with each step, claims that Kmart is selling several types of shoes that infringe his patents.

The suit seeks a permanent injunction and unspecified damages.
