Ex-Massey Foremen Get Probation Over Fatal Mine Fire

Law360, New York (December 10, 2010, 2:09 PM EST) -- Four ex-foremen at a Massey Energy Co. coal mine have been fined and sentenced to probation following guilty pleas to misdemeanor charges that stemmed from an investigation into a 2006 fire that claimed two miners' lives.

Judge John T. Copenhaver Jr. sentenced the four men Thursday to one year of probation. Donald Hagy, Edward Ellis Jr. and Michael Plumley were also fined $2,000 each, according to court records. Terry Shadd was fined $1,000, his lawyer said.
