Fla. Court Affirms $28.3M RJ Reynolds Verdict

Law360, New York (December 14, 2010, 8:42 PM EST) -- In a decision that will aid thousands seeking to hold tobacco companies liable for health problems due to smoking, a Florida appeals court on Tuesday upheld a $28.3 million jury verdict against R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.

Florida's First District Court of Appeal upheld the verdict in favor of Matilde C. Martin, whose husband Benny Martin, a longtime smoker of the Lucky Strike cigarette brand, died in 1995 from lung cancer.
