FDA Warns Of Hidden Ingredients In Supplements

Law360, New York (December 15, 2010, 6:20 PM EST) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday it was worried about the high number of dietary supplements that contain undeclared active ingredients or other unauthorized components that could be dangerous for consumers.

In a letter to manufacturers, FDA Commissioner Margaret A. Hamburg said laboratory tests on dietary supplements have revealed an "alarming variety" of ingredients that are the same or similar to the active ingredients in FDA-approved drugs.
