Circuit Affirms Attorney's Disability Benefits Award

Law360, New York (March 29, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a setback for UNUM Life Insurance Company of America, a federal appeals court has affirmed a long-term disability benefits award to a former partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher who claimed she was sickened by office buildings.

In an opinion issued Wednesday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit backed a district court’s finding that UNUM wrongfully denied benefits to attorney Pamela A. Ray, who claimed disability after inexplicably becoming ill at two different office buildings.
