Portland Diocese Steps Closer To Plan Approval

Law360, New York (March 29, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Portland inched closer to gaining approval of its reorganization plan on Wednesday, with a federal judge ruling that the one remaining claim faced by the diocese would be covered under the $13.7 million set aside for unsettled claims.

U.S. District Judge Robert E. Jones said a claim that a child was wrongfully expelled from a Catholic school amounted to damages of $100,000. Another 20 unsettled claims against the diocese were privately settled after a series of trials in March, Jones said....
