BP Oil Spill Panel Slams La. Sand Berms Project

Law360, New York (December 16, 2010, 6:42 PM EST) -- A presidential commission's report on Thursday called the artificial sand islands constructed to protect Louisiana's coast from oil released by the Deepwater Horizon spill an "underwhelmingly effective, overwhelmingly expensive" waste of money.

The project, which Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and other local politicians strongly supported, was a triumph of politics over science, according to the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling's 45-page report called "The Story of the Louisiana Berms Project," which was made public Thursday.
