Israel Prepares For Clash With U.S., E.U. Over Drug Patent Policy

Law360 (September 13, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Israeli government is preparing for an outright confrontation with the U.S. government and pharmaceutical industry with its plans to essentially confine patent rights for drugs to marketing exclusivity, according to reports.

The cabinet’s intention to approve a proposed change in protection for intellectual property rights of international pharmaceutical companies threatens “a crisis in U.S.-Israel trade relations,” financial daily Globes reported.
