HHS Wants Health Insurers To Justify Rate Hikes

Law360, New York (December 21, 2010, 6:27 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday announced proposed regulations to require health insurers to disclose and justify any rate increases of more than 10 percent, as part of the massive health care reform laws passed in March.

Under the proposed Affordable Care Act rules, justifications for such rate hikes must be posted on the HHS website and on the insurer’s own website, department officials said.
