DOL Calls On Coal Mines To Police Safety Violations

Law360 (December 23, 2010, 1:06 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Labor is seeking to require operators of coal mines to identify and correct violations of mandatory health and safety standards, in addition to hazardous conditions.

The DOL's Mine Safety and Health Administration announced the proposal to revamp its requirements for preshift, supplemental and weekly mine examinations on Wednesday. Currently, mine operators are required to check for hazardous conditions and not violations of health and safety standards.
