Verizon, Others Duck $500M Suit Over Patent Trust

Law360, New York (January 3, 2011, 3:51 PM EST) -- A federal judge has tossed a $500 million antitrust suit accusing a nonprofit patent-holding company and telecommunications giants Verizon Communications Inc., Cisco Systems Inc. and Ericsson Inc. of conspiring to strong-arm small patent owners and licensors out of business.

On Wednesday, Judge Denise Cote of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York found that plaintiff Inc. lacked standing to bring claims under antitrust laws because it was not the direct victim of the alleged violations.
