Switzerland Probes Swisscom Fiber-Optic Network Plans

Law360, New York (January 4, 2011, 3:14 PM EST) -- Switzerland's competition authority opened twin investigations Tuesday into Swisscom Ltd.'s plans to build fiber-optic networks through joint ventures with electricity providers like Groupe E SA, amid concerns that the projects might give the telecommunications giant an unfair edge.

The Swiss Competition Commission launched an extended probe of Swisscom's project with Groupe E to build a fiber-optic network to replace the fixed copper and coaxial cable lines currently used for telephone and broadband Internet service in the state of Fribourg.
