EU Opens Probe Into Joint Brazilian OJ Venture

Law360, New York (January 7, 2011, 7:22 PM EST) -- The European Union's antitrust watchdog has launched an in-depth probe into a proposed joint venture between the orange juice production units of Brazilian companies Votorantim Group and Fischer Group.

The European Commission said Friday that it had opened an investigation under EU merger laws into the companies' plan to combine their activities in the orange juice market, following the regulator's initial market investigation which indicated that the proposed deal raised potential competition concerns.
