EPA Wins $17M Settlement Over Calif. Superfund Site

Law360, New York (January 11, 2011, 12:56 PM EST) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has reached a more than $17 million settlement with 275 parties over cleanup costs at a Superfund site in Monterey Park, Calif.

The EPA's Pacific Southwest Region on Monday announced the settlement with companies, local governments and other entities, each of which the agency said shipped between 4,200 and 110,000 gallons of liquid hazardous waste to the 190-acre Operating Industries Inc. Superfund site, which operated as a landfill accepting commercial, residential and industrial waste from 1948 to 1984.
