Star Wants New Trial In RJ Reynolds Patent Case

Law360, New York (January 11, 2011, 4:17 PM EST) -- Star Scientific Inc. asked the Federal Circuit for a new trial Tuesday in its long-running legal battle against R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. over two patents for a tobacco-curing process, saying a slide the cigarette maker presented unfairly prejudiced a jury.

A three-judge panel in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit heard oral arguments Tuesday from Star and R.J. Reynolds on whether the slide was in fact prejudicial.
