Regulators To Examine Rail Industry Competition

Law360 (January 11, 2011, 6:39 PM EST) -- The federal agency that regulates railroads vowed Tuesday to consider policy initiatives to promote increased competition among freight-rail companies.

The Surface Transportation Board said it would hold a public hearing in May to address the current state of competition in the railroad industry and possible policy alternatives to facilitate more competition, where appropriate.

The hearing comes in response to concerns by shippers about routes served by a single rail carrier.
