ITC Trims Chip Patent Suit Against Panasonic

Law360 (January 14, 2011, 2:39 PM EST) -- An administrative law judge has narrowed the scope of Freescale Semiconductor Inc.'s Section 337 probe over chip patents made by Panasonic Corp. and others, saying one of the allegedly infringed patents disclaimed the type of circuit boards the respondents manufactured.

Freescale used language during prosecution of its U.S. Patent Number 7,199,306 that indirectly disclaimed printed circuit boards, or PCBs, thinner than 0.35 millimeters, Judge Paul J. Luckern of the U.S. International Trade Commission ruled in a Jan. 5 order made public Friday.
