Senate Appropriators Give Nod To USPTO Fee Increase

Law360, New York (September 19, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Senate appropriators have approved a funding bill that would raise fees for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and ban the diversion of funds collected by the USPTO to other federal programs for the next year.

The move was reported by the Intellectual Property Owners Association, a Washington, D.C. group that opposes the measure in favor of a permanent ban on fund diversion.

The bill contains a temporary, one-year increase of 15% to 25% in patent fees without the long term guarantee against diversion of fees...
