Greek Regulator OKs Unilever-Ice Cream Co. Deal

Law360, New York (January 18, 2011, 2:51 PM EST) -- Greece's competition watchdog has conditionally greenlighted Unilever PLC's planned purchase of a Greek ice cream brand's trademarks and distribution network, clearing the transaction provided that the treat company tweaks its existing distribution contracts and Unilever trims the deal's noncompete clause.

The Hellenic Competition Commission approved the consumer products giant's deal with Greek dairy company Evga SA on Friday, relieving both companies from the watchdog's threatened veto of the deal on grounds that the acquisition might threaten competition.
