FAA Threatens SkyWest With Maintenance Failure Fines

Law360, New York (January 18, 2011, 7:27 PM EST) -- The Federal Aviation Administration has proposed $359,000 in fines against SkyWest Airlines Inc. for allegedly failing to follow established procedures for aircraft maintenance and cargo documentation.

The FAA said Tuesday that $220,000 of the proposed fines represented a penalty for Utah-based SkyWest's alleged failure to document heavy checked bags, electric wheelchairs and heavy shipment carried on five passenger flights between April 2010 and May 2010.

SkyWest said in a statement Tuesday that it was disappointed with the FAA's assessment and would appeal the penalties.
