DOJ Forms New Unit To Punish Prosecutor Misconduct

Law360, New York (January 18, 2011, 7:00 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Justice said Tuesday that it has created a new unit to review the most serious cases of prosecutorial misconduct against its attorneys and determine how they should be disciplined.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said that the new Professional Misconduct Review Unit would be responsible for disciplining the Justice Department's career attorneys if the Office of Professional Responsibility has made a finding against them.

The PMRU will also decide whether to refer cases to state bar associations for possible punishment, Holder said....
