Offshore Energy Agency Announces Formal Split

Law360, New York (January 19, 2011, 3:00 PM EST) -- The offshore energy regulatory agency formerly known as the U.S. Minerals Management Service will split into a resource management unit and a safety and enforcement unit, U.S. Department of the Interior officials said Wednesday.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, MMS' stand-in since mid-2010, will complete its transition into two separate agencies by Oct. 1, according to Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and BOEMRE Director Michael Bromwich.
