FDA Suspects Link Between Breast Implants, Cancer

Law360, New York (January 26, 2011, 6:31 PM EST) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday it has uncovered a possible link between a rare form of cancer called anaplastic large cell lymphoma and breast implants filled with saline or silicone gel.

The agency asked health care professionals to report any confirmed cases of the cancer, referred to as ALCL, in women with breast implants and said "patients with breast implants may have a very small but significant risk of ALCL in the scar capsule adjacent to the implant."
