Arbitrator Rules For Union In Tribune Sale Of Papers

Law360, New York (April 10, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An arbitrator has found that Gannett Co.’s acquisition of the Tribune Co.’s Connecticut newspaper, the Advocate of Stamford, violates a union contract because Gannett was not going to honor the newsroom employees' collective bargaining agreement.

A motion filed by the union Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut cites the arbitrator’s decision in its request for an injunction halting the sale. A judge issued an injunction last month that is set to expire.
