Alaska Sens. Push Bill To Ban Genetic Frankenfish

Law360, New York (February 1, 2011, 1:06 PM EST) -- U.S. senators from Alaska have introduced a bill to ban genetically engineered fish, responding to environmental concerns and a proposal currently before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to approve AquaBounty Technologies Inc.'s modified salmon for human consumption.

Sens. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, who proposed the same bill in the last congressional session, said the so-called Frankenfish threatens Alaska's wild salmon stocks and habitats and would harm Alaska's fishermen economically.
