Chile's Antitrust Court Puts Airline Merger On Ice

Law360, New York (February 1, 2011, 4:00 PM EST) -- Chile's antitrust court has temporarily suspended LAN Airlines SA's merger with Brazilian carrier TAM SA while it reviews concerns raised by a Chilean consumer group that the deal would hurt competition in the nation's air transport industry.

The Chilean Competition Tribunal decided on Friday to put the breaks on the merger between two of Latin America's biggest airlines while it analyzes the effects of the deal, a move that quickly attracted the attention of Brazil's own antitrust watchdog.
