Grocery Industry Attracts German Antitrust Probe

Law360, New York (February 14, 2011, 1:18 PM EST) -- German antitrust regulators Monday announced the start of a sectorwide probe of the grocery industry based on concerns about the concentration of the biggest retailers and competition among food suppliers.

The investigation will focus on specific product groups and examine whether some retailers have a considerable advantage over their rivals in purchasing different kinds of foods and beverages, the German Federal Cartel Office said.
