Bankruptcy Filings Up In 2010, But Pace Slackens

Law360, New York (February 15, 2011, 6:44 PM EST) -- Newly released statistics show that the number of bankruptcy filings in U.S. federal courts rose 8 percent in 2010, continuing a five-year upward trend, but increasing at the slowest rate yet over the same time period.

There were 1,593,081 bankruptcies filed between January and December 2010, up from 1,473,675 bankruptcies filed in 2009, according to data collected from courts across the nation and released on Tuesday by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts.
