Leahy Calls Again For Stiffer CWA Penalties

Law360, New York (February 16, 2011, 12:11 PM EST) -- Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., has given a second life to a bill that would ratchet up penalties for violating the Clean Water Act by making jail time for violators more likely and mandating compensation for victims in criminal cases.

On Tuesday, Leahy reintroduced the Environmental Crimes Enforcement Act, which seeks to encourage accountability among corporate actors and help deter environmental crimes.
