EU Court Refuses To Block 'F1' Mark Registration

Law360, New York (February 17, 2011, 5:59 PM EST) -- A subdivision of the Court of Justice of the European Union on Thursday rejected Formula One Licensing BV's bid to block Racing-Live SAS from registering the community trademark “F1-Live.”

In dismissing Formula One's challenge to the registration of the “F1-Live” mark, a three-judge panel in the Eighth Chamber of the General Court upheld the national registration office's determination that, due to “obvious differences” between the marks, Racing-Live's mark would not tarnish or create public confusion about earlier marks registered by Formula One.
