Green Groups Sue W.Va. Miners Over Selenium Limits

Law360, New York (February 18, 2011, 7:52 PM EST) -- A trio of green groups sued Patriot Coal Corp. and its subsidiaries on Friday over alleged selenium contamination stemming from West Virginia mines, saying state regulators have failed to adequately prosecute the matter.

Patriot and three of its units exceeded selenium discharge limits on more than 750 occasions since January 2010, according to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia by the Sierra Club, the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition Inc. and the West Virginia Highlands Conservancy Inc....
