Ex-Examiners Target USPTO's 3-Track Patent Plan

Law360, New York (February 25, 2011, 8:16 PM EST) -- The White House has proposed dividing up the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s patent application system into three tracks, but the move may make the examination process more complex and do little — at least initially — to drive down the massive backlog of applications, former patent examiners say.

In early February the White House announced its plan to split patent application reviews into fast, standard and slow tracks designed to remove unnecessary delays and give applicants an opportunity to prioritize their applications.
