Va. Removes No-Discharge Zone From Chesapeake Bay

Law360 (February 25, 2011, 6:39 PM EST) -- Virginia legislators passed a bill Thursday that will exclude the main stem of Chesapeake Bay from being designated a no-discharge zone under a state law that prevents vessels in Virginia’s tributaries and tidal waters from dumping treated waste.

The bill, HB 1943, amends and clarifies a 2009 Virginia law banning the dumping of treated waste from vessels by exempting the main stem openings of the major rivers of the Chesapeake Bay.
