Ala. Teacher Group Attacks New State Law On Dues

Law360 (March 1, 2011, 2:26 PM EST) -- Alabama's teacher association is challenging a new state law it says could prevent public employees from paying membership dues to political action groups, alleging the new statute is unconstitutional.

The Alabama Education Association filed a lawsuit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, saying the law was a bid by state Republicans to stifle the association's political activities and influence. The association usually supports Democrats rather than Republicans.
